Shane's company always has a fancy-smancy formal Christmas party. It is one of my year's highlights. Leave the kids at home and spend the evening eating an amazing dinner and dancing. Experiment with virgin drinks at the open bar. Gabbing it up with slightly inebriated adults. That is my idea of a great date night. I really wanted this to wear this little number. Minus the bow. Okay not really since it costs as much as my car. Still. I started planning my outfit in August.
This year, to deal with budget cuts, the party has been replaced with a "family open house"! We just got the invite. It is at the office building. During business hours. "Light refreshments served". Ok that seriously blows. A daytime party with this kids, wearing jeans and a hoodie.....not quite the glam affair I was hoping for. Now where am I going to wear my fancy smancy holiday outfit?! Dear Santa.....can we get over this recession thing already?

that sucks! just create your own magical night at home....candlelight...music...wine and dress up!
that is a major bummer! chris' company doesn't do ANYTHING for families, just a potluck employee lunch. so lame. we used to get invited to the big bash their law firm did every year, but then they stopped using that firm. boo hoo. no big party for me this year, either.
I am over the recession too! Especially since I have been out of work because of it since January. Dear Santa, can I get a job that allows me to afford daycare? Thats all I want!
Bummer! Thats quite the drastic change from one year to the next! I just found your blog today and look forward to reading more! Thanks for sharing. Your family is beautiful :)

Of course you need to just throw your own party! We're having a fondue fete in a couple of weeks. You are officially invited.
YUCK! We have the family thing at the office too. That skirt is pretty much perfection! Maybe next year I'll actually get an adult Christmas Party planned!
Go see "The Nutcracker" or the symphony. It's fun to dress up and you won't be the only one who does it.
So sorry to hear the change in party plans! I heart any excuse to dress up too, so I can imagine how completely bummed you are. You could always get your girlfriends together and do a Girly Gala (suppose you could invite the hubbies as well lol) We did this in college. We dressed up all fancy and went out to eat at a nice restaurant. And of course we took tons of pics! So fun! Maybe we should get a bunch of our married friends and do this as a big group date. Ok, I think I'm totally going to do it!
