Instafriday #9

This week we pretty much lived at the pool and the park. I keep thinking we are going to have a nice lazy TV day at home, but it hasn't happened yet. The weather is just too gorgeous.

All the park time has been good for my reading. Pretty sure I'm the last person in the USA to read this, but this week I started it. And I'm pretty sure ever other mom at the park had this same toenail polish. Seems to be the shade of the month.

We've been painting when it just get too hot.
(Collin isn't napping anymore. It makes for very long days.)

In big news, I did something pretty crazy. I made a pie. From scratch. AND I made it up with a mixture of all my summer fruit. Cherries, peaches, blueberries, strawberries, mangos and plums. It's terribly ugly, but it tastes delicious. This is a big domestic milestone for me. I was much to worn out to make dinner afterwards.

Had a successful thrifting trip with two whinny kids. I love my new little Instamatic.

Found this beauty at an estate sale.
But for $75? I don't think so.
Made a pretty photo though.

Shane and I were shopping and I picked up this lamp.
He hates it. I think it looks cool.
We are leaving it in the living room for the next week to see if it grows on him.

Found this in a drawer.

"From Lydia to God. Dear God we love you know matter what."

My little girl is amazing.

So is my little boy.

See his bruise? He has been injured every day this week in some way.
Been giving lots of comfort hugs.

We woke up yesterday to find that Shane had made everyone waffles before he had to leave for an early day at work.
That's Shane's way of giving comfort hugs when he's not around.

And when he is around, the eatings even better.

He grilled some salmon on a wood plank. Apologies to our neighbors for wafting this smell into their yards.

Everything tastes so good in the summer.

So good you just have to sing about it with spaghetti sauce all over your face!

Have a great weekend!

Guest room reveal!

Sad sad guest room. Why would anyone want to come visit here?
It needed some love.
And some yellow.

Ah. So much better.
It's amazing what a little color can do.
So bright and happy.
It just says, "come in and leave your worries at the door".

Shane first painted the ceiling white, along with all the trim.
It took a really long time to find the right color for the walls.
Every sample ended up being too green or too blue.
But once I found it, I knew it was perfect.

This huge armoire is maybe my favorite piece of furniture in the house.
It houses lots of baby blankets and down comforters for our guest to choose from.
Most of our guests do have babies, so I moved in a rocking chair.
Just for fun, I framed a little vintage handkerchief for the wall.
(I collect them.)

Of course, the quilt is the star of the room. My sister Emily made it for me.
AMAZING. I know.

The multi color pillow is from Pillow Mio and the yellow ones are from World Market.
The throw was made for Lydia as a shower gift.

The side table is a refurnished vintage sewing table.
I need to cut about three inches off the legs to get it the right height.
But it feels sad to do it, so I keep putting it off.

I've somehow kept this entire dresser empty for guests.
It's been an effort. My jewelry making supplies would fit there so nicely.

Still not sure about these flowers. I'm thinking maybe hydrangeas would be better.

Framed this Daydream list from the Wheatfield.

I asked my sister to send me some scraps she had left over from the quilt.
I thought they would be nice framed on the wall.

I went to Hobby Lobby and had some speciality matting done.
Use the 40% coupon and it's super cheap.

Used some of that "too blue" sample paint to make some boring lamps just right.

Here's a peek into the bathroom. It's nice and yellow.
But it's not done yet, so you can't see it.

I love these colors together.

Okay, I still need to get the door painted. Shane wants to wait until we can do them all at the same time, so it might be a while.

But other than that, I love it.
All ready for guests.
(Boise is lovely in the Summer. Come visit!)

InstaMonday!

I'm about a week behind with the instagrams pics, so lucky you, there are a ton!
Well, my mom will be excited.

We decided to head over to the Meridian Days Dairy day parade.
My kids had a lot of sugar. A lot. Halloween amounts.
Lot's more pics of our fun here.

Lydia graduated from Kindergarten!
See more pics here

Shane, of course, added to the celebration with graduation pancakes.
More pancake pics here

On my way from picking up my bountiful baskets on Saturday, I got lost in a sketchy neighborhood. Saw a dumpy yard sale outside an RV. The guy was mostly selling old auto parts. I found a promising looking box under a table. "oh that just some of my moms old junk. 50 cents a piece if you find anything". Um, yes please. Just look at all this glorious yellow!

That night, Shane and I got a babysitter and headed out to dinner.
We had to wait a bit for our reservations.
I didn't mind the view.

The next day was father's day, and Shane woke up to a fun surprise outside.
What husband doesn't want matching bikes with his wife! :)
We had to test them out right away.

Which is probably why we were running really late to church.
I grabbed the first thing I saw to wear.
Our full length mirror is now all the way upstairs in the guest room since it matches that set, so I quickly asked Shane how I looked.

He glanced up from tying his shoes and he couldn't hide his smile fast enough.

"Um. You look very, um, doilyish."

"Did you just call me a doily?"

"No. You look, like a nice Mormon."

"Did you just say I'm dressed like a Mormon?"

"Um, no. I mean yes. You are a Mormon. I'm going to go get the kids shoes on."

Nice.

(I did kind of look like a doily. But it was just so yellow, I kept it on.)

The kids outfits were more successful.

Lydia likes yellow too.

For Father's Day dinner, I asked Shane what he wanted.
"hum. Let's keep it simple. How about grilled NY steaks, chicken kabobs in that marinade I like, grilled veggie kabobs, rolls and garlic mashed potatoes. Oh and pineapple upside down cake for dessert."......after 5 hours of chopping, cutting, mashing and baking, I can tell you, it was not simple.

But he deserved it.

Monday was our first official day of summer.
And Collin celebrated by sleeping in until 10.

We still got to swim lessons in time.

More swim class pics here.

As I wrote in my "Break for Sisyphus" post, I spent one glorious day reading and ignoring guilt.
And kind of ignoring the kids.

The next day I woke up and
decided we were going to have a day totally focused on fun.
This is probably the only no-make up photo I will ever share with you. FYI.

I spent swimming lessons finishing up my book.
(I'll be giving a copy of it away later this week.)

I could have made lunch, but it's in the 80's with no humidity.
Al fresco lunch seemed more appropriate, don't you think?

And frozen yogurt really just fills in the cracks.
(Tell me Collin doesn't look exactly like a child from a 1950's pudding ad.)

We invited friends over for a good old fashioned homecooked meal.

Which ended in snowcones and getting really wet in the kiddie pool.

And Lydia finally had that slumber party she's been asking for.
They were up until 11 and up at 5am.
That was unpleasant.

I put them to work the next morning emptying the kiddie pool with bowls.
Kept them busy for a couple hours.
Yes, that is Collin in his pajamas.

They were so exhausted from the day's activities, both kids took long naps.

And I laid out and napped a little in the sun.

And I didn't feel guilty one bit.

YAY! It's summertime!!!!
