Engorged

Two days after Collin was born, my milk came in. Apparently my body got the message that instead of having just the one baby, I needed to feed an entire set of octuplets. To say that I was engorged would be a gross understatement. While at the hospital, I decided to take a shower in the stiz tub and caught a glimpse of my naked self in the mirror. There are two things you don't want to do after having a c-section. Cough and laugh. But no matter how much it hurt, I couldn't stop laughing when I saw myself. It looked like someone had literally glued cantaloupes to my chest.

My lactation specialist has never seen anyone produce so much milk so fast. She helped me with a pump, but reminded me that the more I pump, the more I will produce - so use sparingly. Well, here I am. 3AM. My baby is sleeping soundly, but I cannot even think of sleep until I get a little relief from these super mama jugs. Collin eats for 5 minutes before he is full. That doesn't help. And to think, some women pay thousands of dollars for this look.

Oh well. At least my baby is getting some yummy grub. While I am up, here are a few more photos from the hospital. Not any photos of the above mentioned subject. This is a nice family blog. :)

Collin - a few hours old.

Lydia - a few hours old. See any resemblance?

Oh, Lordy do I remember those days. Being a small breasted person I actually was in love with my engorged boobs. To bad the kiddos suck it all out of ya! He is such a beauty.....makes my womb start to ache....maybe its time for #4.

♥ He's adorable! How fun to have a new baby. That's my favorite time, the newborn stage! I never had the engorged problem my problem was always trying to make it... Never worked with any of my kids! :)

Your description of your new boobs reminds me of a time when we were little and you were just getting boobs for the first time. I recall us looking in the mirror and laughing. I also recall you raising your arms in the air and trying to get them to shake. Good to know boobs can make you laugh throughout your life. I'm imagining you'll have another boob laugh post when your 70. Looking forward to it.

Oh, he's so perfect! Your entire family is beautiful, congratulations. I became terribly engorged when my baby, then aged 8 months, decided he wasn't going to nurse any more. I had been producing enough milk to feed a small army. In fact, I "donated" my milk to the preemie nursery at the hospital, I had so much. So you can imagine the engorgement I suffered when mine suddenly quit nursing. I learned that I had come down with a viral infection, which was affecting my milk. Anyway, lots of hot showers with some manual expressing, then binding. Lots of chest binding. I was miserable, so I feel for ya kiddo:)

what a sweetie!

Not sure if you are still engorged, but I have some advice I received from my lactation consultant that worked (for both my kids). Cabbage. I know it sounds weird, but you take a rolling pin to a cabbage leaf to break the veins. Then place them around the boob. Sounds weird, but it works. =D

Cute photos. I didn't breast feed. I was excited to have bigger breasts for once, but they hurt so much & I had to take cold showers & put ice on them to get them to come down. Yucky.
