Tieks by Gavrieli Reivew

You know how I have that little "birthing day" tradition where I do something nice for myself the week of my kids birthdays? (You know. I did do a lot of work to make those birthdays happen!) Well this year I thought I'd treat myself to some fabulous new ballet flats, Tieks by Gavrieli.
(Photo by Beauty Junket. Cuter than the pics I took.)

Being pregnant I knew I wanted some really great shoes to take me through the rough months of pregnancy. I had heard of Tieks, but at a rather high price point of $165 - $265 I thought I'd do my research first.

These are some pretty amazing shoes. Italian leather, designed to fold up to fit in your purse and take wherever you go. There are some cheaper flimsy versions of "purse flats", but these aren't like that. Tieks are made to wear everyday, all day long. "The perfect travel shoe". That's what everyone calls them. But personally, I think they're the perfect maternity shoe.

Unbelievably comfortable. They stretch with your feet. (Think swelling and feet starting to grow a bit.) Soft padded soles, in a darling turquoise. You can run after toddlers, wear them to work or a date. You really can wear them everyday. Since I've received my Tieks I haven't worn another pair of shoes except to the gym.

There's a plethora of amazing colors to choose from. Patent leathers, prints, even a vegan line. I, of course, picked Mustard Yellow. When I received my turquoise box with the pretty fabric flower I was very excited. A little carrying case for when you keep them in your purse, and a bag to carry your uncomfortable high heels when you switch them out. Fantastic. But when I actually put them on, I was gitty. The softest leather, I've never worn more comfortable shoes. I still can't get over the quality. And they are absolutely beautiful. I love them so much, I went ahead and bought a second pair in black. Pretty sure I want the Copperhead Snakes next. Just think! They are compact enough to slip inside my diaper bag!

By the way, Tieks have a great return policy. Free shipping, they pay shipping on returns. I ordered the wrong size at first. Tieks sent me a larger size along with a pre-paid shipping label to send back the wrong pair.

So the big question is, are Tieks worth the money? Well, for me I say a resounding YES. I believe in the "price per wear"philosophy with clothes. You can get a cute trendy top for $12 on clearance and be thrilled with your deal. But if you only wear that shirt 3 times, that's over $4 per wearing. Buy a great pair of jeans for $100 and wear them twice a week for a year and you're at around $1 a wearing. A pair designer, quality shoes I wear 4 times a week (at least!) are going be worth the investment.

Love love love Tieks! If you're pregnant or traveling or just super cool, treat yourself!

So cute, I just bought some tight curly ones at target- but they suck.

I hate to justify paying that much for shoes Natalie!!!!
I'm torn!! I do have a trip coming up. what to do...

Ashley - I don't mind spending money on great shoes since there is nothing that ruins a day more than sore feet. And I figure you have to buy less shoes when you have just a few pair that are fantastic. I have some flats from Target too. But the fake leather is starting to peel away and they aren't comfy after a couple hours. I actually wanted Tieks for a trip to Europe that has to be postponed due to my pregnancy. But I think for travel, Tieks are awesome.

Bras jeans and shoes. Best investments in a wardrobe.

Love my tieks, they are the nicest pair of flats I've ever had, I think mainly due to the leather. I don't think the price is justified for functionality (I can get plenty of good shoes for much cheaper)...BUT if you are in the market for a NICE quality pair of designer flats, pick these over something like Tory Burch, whose Revas have a bad rep for poor construction and falling apart really, really fast.

Awesome review! I really want to try a pair too as I'm on my feet all day!

As a footwear designer, I am curious about other women's reasons for buying a foldable shoe? For me, it was to put a backup in my purse. This means a shoe should address compactness and hygiene. It seems like a simple way of designing this would be sole-to-sole, yet Tieks along with all other brands folded it with the dirty soles facing out. Your choice, would love to hear any comments on this -check it out www.flipslip.com

I wondered how they're holding up? I'm trying to decide on a color myself, and I'm completely torn between the exact two colors that you got! Is the yellow hard to keep clean? Do you have a favorite? I just can't decide...basic (go with everything) black, or fun pop of color yellow.
Help! ;)
