Brush with Fame

In honor of the Oscars tonight, I'd like to know, what are some of your "famous" encounters. What celebrities have you meet, sat next to, or asked for an autograph while trying to stifle hysterics?

I have had quite a few mini encounters. The first time I saw a celebrity was when I was 15 and I saw one the robbers from Home Alone buying a hot dog in L.A. Once I saw Matthew McConaughey buying bagels in Jerusalem. (Humiliated that I snapped a photo and everything.) My last celebrity encounter was standing behind Greg Kinnear in the security line at a NYC airport. And then again at the airport magazine shop. So he didn't think I was following him (not that he even noticed me), I did a quick turn out of the shop and ran right into this man and his entourage. Guess that is New York for you. The only celebrity Chattanooga can boast is Mr. Belding from Saved By the Bell. (Shane sat behind him in an airplane once.)

I'll leave my other "brush with fame" stories for my friends and family to laugh at in person.

So really. What are your stories?

Speaking of famous. The song I've embedded is by one of my favorite bands ever, The Autumns. Their cover of The Smiths "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want" - made the list of the "WCS Top 10 Best Cover Songs of the Decade". If I was to have a song that played instantly on my blog (though I never will) this would be it. AND the best part, I know the girl who is singing!!! It is Jana from the West Coast famed band The Arrogants. Look! She even came to a party I threw. I'm so cool...by association. By the way, for all you OC residences who pined the lost of The Arrogants: Jana is in a new band called The Cedars. So fantastic. Check out the song "The End". I could listen to her voice forever. Oh, and the other guy in the band. My old college boyfriend. Now how cool am I? (Sitting here at home in sweatpants...eating nachos, waiting for the Oscars to start.)

You totally forgot about Samuel Jackson AND Usher. They are both from Chattanooga! This town is overflowing with famous people.

Josh Groban. Need I say more? It was awesome. During the concert I yelled, "JOSH, WILL YOU MARRY ME?" and he actually replied. Then when we met him after I was a blubbering idiot trying to apologize for asking that in the concert. My best friend is a celeb-aholic and AI fan, so we met Kelly Clarkson and Clay Aiken too. Before he came out. I tried to warn her but she denied it until that day. Haha!

I walked by Helen Hunt and Larry King at Disneyland. I saw them on the same day, but they weren't together :) As a two year old, my son tried to get Kadeem Hardison to pick him up as he got stuck in the aisle next to our seats on a Jet Blue flight from SLC to LGB - I assume he was there for the Sundance Film Festival. He didn't pick him up, but he did shake his hand. Also, Wilford Brimley read books to my class when I was a 2nd grade teacher on Read Across America Day. Which, in the game 6 Degrees from Kevin Bacon I got a score of 2 since they starred in the movie End of the Line together :) This post is going on for far too long. LOL

BTW I saw this and thought of you!

Donny Osmond was in my ward in St. George. His son was in my 5th grade class. One day, Donny came into class, sang some songs for us and signed autographs. It was the highlight of my 10-yr-old life!

when we lived in Saudi Arabia my parents met Prince Hussein and Princess Billy. Now 100 people would probably have to die before they would even be considered for the line, but it was cool, and we even went to Pakistan with Princess Billy for her pregnancy delivery. only the girls went!

I've met quite a few people from relatively unknown bands but my biggest claim to fame is Kevin Costner. The Upside Of Anger was partially filmed about 3 minutes from my house, so I went down there on my bike (I was about 12 :-P) and sat behind a tree with a friend to watch them shoot a scene. Then he came over and started talking to us and said hey, so that was pretty cool.

I also used to talk to Amy Macdonald before she was famous!!

Meg Ryan, Jennifer Connelly, John Turturro, Steve Buscemi, Bjork, Jimmy Carter, Harvey Keitel, Al Pacino, Minnie Driver, etc.

I don't see as many celebs since I don't live in NYC anymore, but I did see Senator Corker this weekend at the Riverwalk.

this is fun! does being the old college boyfriend mentioned in this post count? or being married to the girl that sang in that (and a few other) autumns song(s)?

here's a couple: we're actually really good friends with the creators of yo gabba gabba (if you haven't watched it yet, you NEED to). jana dated the voice of plex (one of the creators) and i actually dated foofa (the pink one, who is the sister of the guy that jana dated).

i saw joan cusack coming off of the water ride at disney california adventure. she was a total wet mess. completely nutty looking.

jana's band the arrogants used to play with this band called kara's flowers a bunch of times that ended up changing their name to maroon five and managed to write a hit or two. the arrogants were also supposed to open for weezer once in this tiny club called spaceland in l.a. but canceled because weezer was playing under their secret show name, goat punishment and they had no clue who that was. after they found out what they had done, they tried to get back on the bill but it was too late. we still got to see the show though and it was INCREDIBLE.

ummm, i know there's a few others but i can't remember them right now. hey natalie, what about your ben affleck story? is that one really true?
