We're Moving to Boise!

So we have some big news. We are soon leaving Chattanooga and moving west. And when I say soon, I mean next week.

Let me backtrack a bit and fill you in on the last month.

Shane and I have been feeling for a while that we would like to move closer to family. However, with the economy the way it is, we felt like it was very unlikely we would find any opportunities that filled all of our requirements. (Same or better pay, in the West, less travel.) Have I ever mentioned that Shane is gone much of the work week? Now you know how I have time to blog.

A few weeks ago Shane was approached about a prospect in Boise. Next thing we know Shane was made a great offer and we had to decide if this was the move we wanted to make. Sufficed to say, after much prayer, we felt this was the right thing for our family.

Now why are we moving so dang fast? Well, that is another story.

I'm at a playdate with a friend, watching our kids play together in the kiddie pool. I'm telling her about this new job. Then she tells me about how her house just went under contract and the buyer wants to move in right away and she has to look for a rental until her new house is built.

By the end of the playdate we had made arrangements for her family to rent my house. Nice timing no? Problem is, she and her family would need to move in ASAP. Thus, even though Shane doesn't start his new job until later in September, we need to vacate our home. Shane is going stay with friends for a couple weeks until he gets his current job wrapped up. The kids and I are heading out to stay with family until our Boise home is ready for us. - Our Chattanooga home is on the market by the way. Let me know if you are looking for a super cute two story!

So. Big big changes in store.

How am I feeling about it all? Well, honestly I devastated to leave Chattanooga. I love it here. I love the landscape, the smells, the charm. I love my friends. I have been in the south for 7 years, 6 of them being in Chattanooga. It's home. Knowing I only have a few days left here is heart breaking.

Also, I'm a little scared. The first time I visited Boise was about 13 years ago and I remember very clearly thinking, "This place is so not me." I was there a week ago and that same feeling came over me. I'm not a desert girl. I like the green. I like rain and snow.

One thing that gives me assurance is every person I have talked to who lives, or has lived, in Boise says they love it. If you live in Boise, or have ever lived there, could you let me know what your thoughts are about the city? Good or bad, I just need some more "inside" information. (Truth be told, I didn't think I would like the South either, but I love it now.)

Of course, somewhere pushed behind the packing boxes and tearful goodbyes is excitement. What an incredible adventure for my family. The house we are moving into is perfect for us - finally a guest bedroom whoo who! We will be 6 hours away from my parents and three hours away from our cowboy relatives in Pendleton Oregon.

The morning we woke up in Boise, I stepped outside and breathed in the fresh cool air. All I could think was "No more humidity". Thank the heavens.

Now you are up to date. I have some posts ready to go during this transition time. A fantastic giveaway posts next Monday. I'll keep you posted on the move as it progresses. Wish us luck!

Hang in there...
My Mom lived there, she says it is very GREEN... I would not know, I have only been there at Thanksgiving. BUT, I think it would be a fun change of pace for you. Moving IS hard- but keeping in touch with people is SOOO much easier now, than when I was in HS and we moved my SENIOR YEAR! lol! that WAS traumatic.
Closer to your folks though, now that's a blessing.

Congratulations! I have several besties from Boise and they ADORE it and would move back in a second. I went there for one of their weddings and I thought it was so quaint and darling. You'll bloom where you're planted because you're awesome like that!

WOW Natalie! I can't believe it! That is MUCH closer to me! Maybe we can hit up the Cafe Rio afterall. :) Good luck with the move. That will be such a big change! One of my dear friends lives in Boise, and I thought it was a great little town!

Goodness, Natalie-- if nothing else this is a wonderful adventure. Worst case scenario, your family can move back to Chatanooga if you feel you can't settle there. Sometimes we just have to let life carry us down the river with the current.

My husband was in the Air Force for 10 years. We had 8 moves in 10 years. We never had more than 2 weeks of notice. I think viewing life as an adventure really helped us. If you go into it expecting to hate it, you will.

My grandmother lives in Boise and my uncle and his family live in Meridian. They love it and both have big trees and green lawns. Just be careful on the eagle exit ... seems like there's always an accident there.

Enjoy the craziness and look for where you can serve!

Yay for your family! I have sensed the sadness of being far from your family in your posts. I am so excited for you guys to be closer to them again! Cherry on the cake is that is seems it was supposed to be this way with everything falling into place so perfectly. We have been here in NC for over 10 years and moved b/c of hubs job. We get to OH as much as we can but it is hard. I am not sure I would move there anymore b/c I am sort of anti snow now lol :) GL with everything Natalie!

Oh, wow! I know that there's probably good and bad, but I hope your move goes smoothly and your whole family flourishes in this new phase. :)

Good luck with the move! I moved around a lot as a kid, but the last move was over 20 years ago! (and I live in Chatt, too! AND my hubby's name is Shane! How weird is that?!)

Congratulations on the new job! That's exciting. I really want to be closer to family someday too. I hope that you love it there.

Yay Natalie!
I didn't ever expect to be living in Idaho myself (Ammon/Idaho Falls), but after 5 years I LOVE it. The people are among the friendliest you'll find anywhere.

Truthfully I've only ever driven through Boise and had the same initial reaction you did...but everyone I talk to who lives there or has visited RAVES about it. There's obviously lots there to discover!

Good luck!

I have nothing to say about Boise but, I wanted to wish you luck in your move. Congrats on moving closer to family. I know how important that is and only wish I could have done the same when they were alive.

So Good Luck. I hope that you find peace in Boise. I'm sure your neighbors will love you, you are so charming.

Wow, congrats on the big change! Being close to family is a wonderful thing. I've never been to Boise, so I can't give you any "insider" tips, but I do think there's something special about a place becoming 'home' to you over the years, even when you think you'd never like it in the first place. Places have a tendency to do that to you. :)

Also, if anything, be grateful that you're leaving the humidity! Seriously, that alone is worth it. :)

I just loved reading this because I love Boise! It is called the city of trees and if you go to camels back, a park in the historic Hyde District and climb up the hill you will def see why it is called the city of trees :). I lived in Caldwell for a year where I went to school and I loved being near Boise. I would say it is a younger town but there is a lot of fun things to do culturally. If you ever need to find things to do pick a Boise Weekley, they highlight some great things. There is the Shakespeare festival that is in a outside ampitheatere and its fun for all ages. There is also festivals that go one all the time, and a liveley Basque community. Downtown has some great stores and eateries. McCall is not far away, a couple hours and it is a great outdoor recreation spot, plus Boise has great hiking and biking routes and a beautiful green belt. I plan on going to grad school there :) I hope you love it as much as I do and good luck!!

Wherever you end up as long as it's with your family it'll be PERFECT Nat. Congratulations, I think you'll like it there. I don't know anyone who hasn't/doesn't like living there. Boise is also in our melting pot of possible places to move. Maybe we'll see you there someday. Best wishes my friend.

Oh wow, how exciting! And how scary at the same time (mostly how quickly the move is, and not getting to savor more time in Chattanooga). I've never been to Boise, but that photo makes it look gorgeous.

Looking forward to hearing more about your move in the next few months!

Hey Natalie- I actually was in your stake growing up in Spokane, my maiden name is Disbrow, anywho. I have lived in Boise for the past 4 years and I was less than excited when I first got there. However, I LOVE IT! In january we moved to St. George to try and expand our business and it is not working as well as we had hoped so we will be returning to Boise in June. I didn't think that I would ever fall in love with Boise like I have. I miss is so much and can't wait to return. We lived in Meridian and we think it is amazing! I think that you will love it although initially it will be hard. Best of luck, if you have any question you think I can answer I would be happy to do so. What area are you moving to? By the way I love reading your blog, so entertaining, amazing and fun! Katie

My family lives in Meridian and we love it here. It's definitely home and a wonderful place to raise a family. My husband is a pilot and some day we may have to move away from here and the idea just breaks my heart. I know you will feel the same way.

Natalie! I already posted this on your facebook page... but I had to do a doubletake when I saw you were moving to Boise. I live in Meridian!! I'm a little sad you have missed the wonderful spring/summer here, but fall is pretty too. (I'm a warm weather girl so not crazy about the winters!) Anyway, I'm sure it will take some time, but I really think you'll grow to love it. The people here are amazing and there are so many wonderful things to see and do. It is so great for families! I'd love to meet up and let the kiddos play sometime and show you around. I know what it's like to move away and not know a soul!

Sounds like an exciting change, but I am sad you are leaving TN! Chattanooga is our favorite city--when we asked our then 3yr old if she wanted to go to Disney World, she said, "no thank you, I really just want to go to Chattanooga." Enjoy the new adventure, and be sure to come back and visit the south!
